Unicorn bag by Chicwish

Some gals have a thing for shoes, some prefer hats, but me? I’m a bag lady, all the way. Well, I actually quite like shoes and hats too, but bags win. If it’s a little ‘out there’ then it’s for me. And the number one rule? Animal bags win, every time. When I was a kid I had a bag shaped like a shoe. I seriously thought it was the coolest thing ever, and I really, really wish I still had it! I like to think it has massively influenced my silly bag collection. But you guys get it, right? Silly bags are so much fun! Here’s a wee look at my collection. Let me know which one is your favourite!

Projecto

Um, so have you guys heard of Projecteo? I had seen them floating around the internet once or twice (on Skunkboy and the Drifter and the Gypsy to name a few) and was intrigued. I mean, it’s a miniature projector for your Instagram photos, what’s not to like? Spoiler alert: it’s pretty darn cool.

We set up a little viewing party – aka an excuse to eat popcorn and jellybeans – and settled down to look through the photos. It works essentially like a Viewmaster (“got my cookies, got my milk, got my Viewmaster!”) You insert the reel, switch it on, and move the wheel to view your pictures. The quality of the pictures are slightly scratched looking, which completely add to the vintage feel.

Now I permanently keep mine on the coffee table, so when guests come over they have something fun to play with! Well, that and the gummy bear lamp that it lives next to!

Adventure Time Black Milk BMO dress

What time is it? …ADVENTURE TIME!

So,  I don’t think I’ve ever discussed of my love of Adventure Time. I’m not terribly sure whether it comes across on here, but I am a bit of a dweeb. I’m obsessed with cartoons, games, and being a general fangirl over a select bunch of movies (Pacific Rim, I’m looking at you). But my absolute favourite above anything else is Adventure Time. I talk about it constantly, and clearly my boyfriend, Barnaby, has been paying attention. For Christmas, Barnaby surprised me with the BMO dress from the Black Milk x Adventure Time collection. (Cue excited squealing and immediately wearing the dress – even forgetting to remove the tags in my excitement. D’oh).

I thought, what better way to show off a BMO dress than playing a game? I was already pretty darn hooked on the Adventure Time Ski Safari game (seriously, the voices and sound effects are so good!)  and playing it again for these photos has only fuelled the obsession. If you’re an Adventure Time fan I highly recommend having a peek at the rest of the collection. My next couple of purchases will hopefully be the Jake the dog skater dress and the Lumpy Space Princess swimsuit. Right, now I just have to not-so-patiently wait for everything from the collection to go on sale!

And now I’ve confessed my nerdy cartoony gamer-y side, I suppose it’s time to admit that yes, I use my computer to make silly graphics (and more!) like the one below. Embrace your inner dweeb, everyone!

White-and-Gold-

I always thought I was more of a ‘silver girl’. But lately it’s been becoming all about the gold. These are just some of the white and gold goodies which I’ve treated myself to lately. Just little things that make me happy, you know. Appreciating the smaller things is far more fun!

I can’t express quite how long I’ve wanted my very own bottle of Marc Jacobs perfume. And now I finally do, thanks to Smelly Cat. Rather than conquering the obsession, it seems to have fueled it. I’d quite like to own one in every single variety. Wouldn’t it be fun to have a Marc Jacobs daisy garden?! Oh, go on then!

White-and-Gold-5

Painting my nails white is the best. My job means I have to reapply it pretty darn often (I’m a preschool teacher, so just think about what playdough, gloop, and everything else does to a manicure) so it’s a great thing that I enjoy doing it quite so much. White polish: I ♥ you.

White-and-Gold-6

How sweet is this rocking horse ring?! It always seems to bring me incredible amounts of luck – making me love it even more, of course! Whenever I wear it, I’ll end up taking it off my finger at some point to admire just how pretty it is. Looove!

Baby-Blues-and-a-Sleepy-Seal-1

A real life seal?! Yes, yes! This sleepy little fellow has been lurking around Wellington city for the past few weeks. Lucky Barnaby gets to say a big ol’ hello to him every day on his way to work but I only see him – well, about three times a week I suppose! Let’s be honest, when a genuine real-life seal is in your city, you gotta make a lot of trips, right? On this overcast day, minutes before getting pelted by an out-of-nowhere type storm, we decided to pay the seal (fondly named Lucille three. Any other Arrested Development fans here?!) a visit before heading off for ice cream. Animals, ice cream, and taking photos? Now that’s my kinda weekend.

You can never have enough Arrested Development, right? I love the episodes where George Bluth senior is in prison. So funny!

These baby blankets are absolutely adorable. I wish they made them in adult sizes!

This editorial for Marie Claire China captures the perfect tea party vibe.

I know not everyone is keen on spiders (I honestly don’t mind them at all!) but there’s no denying that The Spider Garden looks like a pretty neat place to visit.

Friday-Favourites-6-8

These house sculptures by Frank Halmans are so pretty. The rest of his work is wonderful too, you really should take a look!

Friday-Favourites-6-9

I’m a sucker for novelty pencils. This one makes me want to visit the opera – oh, and take notes of course!

Truck-Art-Project-1

A couple of weeks ago now, right after snapping these outfit photos, we were walking alongside Wellington’s enormous waterfront museum, when we spotted this fantastic truck! Dream car doesn’t even begin to cover it..! The owners of this International CF1200 truck are driving it all over New Zealand, via the Truck Art Project, to showcase the beautiful Pakistani art. We (like everyone else even remotely nearby) couldn’t help but snap as many photographs as we could, trying to capture every tiny glimmer of detail. It felt extra special to stumble upon, as Barnaby had an incredibly similar one as his family car when he was growing up. If only it had looked like this! It sure is a beauty, eh!

Well, if not, prepare to feast your eyes upon this delicious selection of clothing that will have you daydreaming all day long about ice cream adventures. Err, Jo, where exactly would I wear them?! (I can hear you asking already!) Fear not, I’ve done the work for you, and dreamt up the perfect scenarios to go along with these mouth-watering goodies. There’s no denying it; dates are scary, nerve-wracking, exciting, worrying – yep, all of the above. It always helps to have your outfit planned beforehand – and this one is the sweetest. Pastel colours will show off your girly side, and the cute accessories are the perfect accent! Oh, and if he asks you to choose the location – please please please ask for a ice cream bar.Yum!

Friday-Favourites-1

How gorgeous is this photo shoot of Tina Yi in the January 2013 issue of Vogue China! Can anyone point me in the general direction of a rainbow flower field, please?

Friday-Favourites-2

Err, bicycle taxidermy. Need I say more?

Friday-Favourites-3

Never before have I wanted a dress so badly in my life! Skeleton print and glow-in-the-dark? Yes yes yes! I am so sad that this has sold out. I will be anxiously refreshing the page until it’s back in stock!

Friday-Favourites-4

Barnaby thought these were a bit creepy – but I fell in love with each and every one of these painted buildings! (He’s probably just worried that I’d do it to our future house… which I totally would!) Which one is your favourite?

Friday-Favourites-5

I swear it is impossible to feel glum when you’re wearing heart print! I wore this dress a couple of days ago when I was going to a big meeting. I was super nervous!

Friday-Favourites-6

Not that it’ll happen anytime soon, but I am severely lusting over a classic quilted Chanel designer handbag – like this one from Cruise Fashion. I wish!

Friday-Favourites-8

These Hello Sunshine flats are some of the sweetest shoes I’ve ever seen! Luckily, they just so happen to be on their way to my mailbox..! ; )

Friday-Favourites-9

Carey Mulligan’s spread for Harper’s Bazaar is seriously gorgeous! I love Carey. She seems like such a sweet person!

Friday-Favourites-7

A speaker picnic blanket sounds like the best thing in the world. Now, if only New Zealand wasn’t going into winter! Oh well, even more reason to be excited for  spring, I suppose!

19th, April, 2013

Hm, a bit of an odd title, don’t you think? At first, I might have even thought so myself! Strangely though, one of the questions I’m emailed about most often (besides lipstick and hair!) is about cat clothing. Namely, people have no idea where to buy cute feline clothing or accessories – let alone how to style them! Now, it’s fairly common amongst fashion bloggers to have a love for cats in fashion. I’d even go so far as saying it’s a staple diet – and I know that there are other bloggers out there who certainly agree (Carrie, Erin, I’m looking at you!) So it seems an absolute necessity that I post somewhat of a guide of how to wear cats on clothing, and not feel too silly and out of place about it.

1. A simple tote bag.

A bag is one of the easiest ways to cure the feline need. It’s easy. Wear whatever you like, then sling a bag over your shoulder, and voila – finished. A cat bag is fantastic way to really ease you into the trend, perfect for if you find it slightly intimidating! The bag I’m wearing above is one of my outfit staples. It’s sadly sold out, but a cute alternative is definitely this bag (which I adore!) – or even this one!

2. Kitty cat tights.

I LOVE these cat tights. Their little grumpy faces are the sweetest ever. Plus, they’re quite subtle when on, as the tights are flesh coloured. It looks almost as though you’ve been doodling on your knees with a felt tip pen (one of my regular habits when I was little!) These seem to sell out fairly often (sob!) so an adorable alternative are these ones, which are on my birthday wishlist!

3. Cat jewellery.

Ahh, jewellery! You make it so easy for those of us that choose the subtle route. Pick out your favourite cat jewellery piece and wear it however you please. I opted for an adorable handmade silver kitten pendant that my Mum gifted to me about five years ago. I don’t wear it terribly often, as I love it to pieces and am so worried that I’ll damage it. But when I do… I love it even more! As for jewellery alternatives, I think this cat ring is gorgeous. Oh, and I love this bracelet too!

4. Feline footwear.

Now, it doesn’t matter whether you can afford the ever-coveted Charlotte Olympia flats – there is always a way to introduce kitty-cats into your footwear. I love wearing cat socks in particular, just because it seems extra sweet to see a little face peeking out from below your ankles! Above I’m wearing a sold-out pair from Modcloth, but I think this pair – or even these, are a pretty sweet alternative!

5. And lastly – a cat hat!

Cat hats are sweet – oh go on, admit it! There is something about the addition of two pointed ears which seems to make headwear oh-so perfect. Barnaby might think I look slightly barmy when I wear my blue Boohoo cat hat down the street, but that’s fine by me. After all, I am slightly barmy! It keeps my head warm and it looks adorable. That’s my boxes checked! A couple of sweet alternatives are this cat beret or a cat bowler hat. Which one is your favourite?

Lastly – the big question; what are some of my very top kitty cat picks? Just take a glance below!

1. Paul & Joe Cat Collection Blush Sticks 2. Vintage Cat Design Shoulder bag 3. Tatty Divine Cat Ring 4. Rare Breed Flat 5. Cat Ear Bowler Hat 6. Loose Cat Print Sweatshirt
