Let’s be honest: one of the very best bits of travelling, namely, to hot place, is getting to go for a good ol’ swim. After growing up in South-East Asia I’m very particular (aka fussy!) about my swimming water. I love swimming, but basically avoid it in New Zealand because it’s just too dang cold! Swimming was on the very top of my list of things to do in Las Vegas, and let me tell you, it definitely did not disappoint.

After packing a whopping 5 swimswuits in my bag, I ended up wearing just this one. The high waist bottoms are by ASOS and reminded me so much of Robin Thicke’s infamous Miley Cyrus duet – cue lots of “girl, give it to me!” impressions at the pool (sorry, bystanders!) Really though, swimming in our hotel pool was one of my favourite experiences. We laid back in the spa, Corona in hand, and watched a real-life hummingbird gather nectar from the surrounding flowers. Paradise? Well, it was pretty darn close! ♥

Lost-in-the-Haze-Daisy-Dress-1

Everyone has their basics. Sure, you might be a dedicated jeans gal, or maybe you like dressing all in black. Each to their own, right? That’s what I LOVE about clothing. You wear what you want, you feel good – it’s easy. My basics usually involve something a little silly, bold prints, and outfits that hopefully have an animal featured somewhere. So this sums it all up, really! A denim daisy pinafore (♥♥♥), my favourite Pepa Loves piece ever; this cat t-shirt, and these amazing Marilyn Monroe inspired flats by Loly in the Sky. I topped it all off with a boater hat I bought in the ASOS sale. I haven’t worn one for ages, since Wellington is so windy; but I had immense luck today – it didn’t fall off my head. Not even once!

We snapped these photos on our way to the oceanside to see if we could sneak a glance at the enormous boat, ‘A’ that anchored in the Wellington Harbour for a couple of days. It’s over a metre bigger that any boat in New Zealand. Okay, so my dorky side is really showing now – I get so excited by things like this!

Slam-Dunkin-1

Oh sure, you might be getting slightly sick of those “this is what I got for Christmas” type ramblings, but I just can’t help it – I received so many amazing presents this year! I unknowingly fell in love with the UK brand Pop Boutique last year when I was asked to choose something to style by Modcloth. In typical Jo fashion, I opted for this sailor dress in navy blue, which I wore on the blog here. Fast forward to Christmas 2013! I’m unwrapping my presents.. when BAM! This amazing Slam Dunkin’sweater appears in front of me. I noticed immediately that it was Pop Boutique. And so the love affair began…

I’ve been wearing it pretty consistently since Christmas. Sure, it’s summer in New Zealand, but luckily (for me!) it has been freezing lately – making it the ultimate sweater weather (hooray!) I’ve been sticking to mostly red, white, and black shades while wearing this top, as I’m sure you can see here. It may look slightly Christmassy, but hey, Christmas is wonderful, so I have no problem with looking a little festive no matter the time of year!

Dream-Outfits-Four-Eyes-1

As a self-confessed ‘visually challenged’ individual, I have the utmost respect for the classic spectacle. Seriously, my eyesight is horrendous. As in ‘Without Glasses or Contacts I Can’t See a Foot In Front of My Face.’ So yep, glasses – you’re pretty great. I’ve styled up glasses print before, and after discovering these goodies, it’s safe to say I’m pretty darn keen to do it again – soon! Take a peek at some of these styled spectacle looks, and of course let me know which is your favourite!

Outfit One: Librarian Chic

Err, did someone say mint coloured glasses? All of my glasses-wearing dreams have come true at once! For the ultimate 1960s receptionist meets librarian chic look, this is all you need. No further explanation needed. Boom.

Dream-Outfits-Four-Eyes-3

1. ASOS Straw Boater Hat / 2. Denim Dungarees with Rabbit Print / 3. Glasses Half Full Cardigan / 4. Law of the Landscape Flats

Outfit Two: Festival Hopping

Festival Hopping. Get it, get it?! (Gosh, I hope so – I can’t be the only one with this terrible sense of humour, right?!) With this sweet rabbit motif, it’s quite impossible not to fall in love with this pair of denim dungarees. Paired with a pretty spectacle print cardigan for maximum eye-wear effect, this is the perfect festival outfit. Love!

19th, April, 2013

Hm, a bit of an odd title, don’t you think? At first, I might have even thought so myself! Strangely though, one of the questions I’m emailed about most often (besides lipstick and hair!) is about cat clothing. Namely, people have no idea where to buy cute feline clothing or accessories – let alone how to style them! Now, it’s fairly common amongst fashion bloggers to have a love for cats in fashion. I’d even go so far as saying it’s a staple diet – and I know that there are other bloggers out there who certainly agree (Carrie, Erin, I’m looking at you!) So it seems an absolute necessity that I post somewhat of a guide of how to wear cats on clothing, and not feel too silly and out of place about it.

1. A simple tote bag.

A bag is one of the easiest ways to cure the feline need. It’s easy. Wear whatever you like, then sling a bag over your shoulder, and voila – finished. A cat bag is fantastic way to really ease you into the trend, perfect for if you find it slightly intimidating! The bag I’m wearing above is one of my outfit staples. It’s sadly sold out, but a cute alternative is definitely this bag (which I adore!) – or even this one!

2. Kitty cat tights.

I LOVE these cat tights. Their little grumpy faces are the sweetest ever. Plus, they’re quite subtle when on, as the tights are flesh coloured. It looks almost as though you’ve been doodling on your knees with a felt tip pen (one of my regular habits when I was little!) These seem to sell out fairly often (sob!) so an adorable alternative are these ones, which are on my birthday wishlist!

3. Cat jewellery.

Ahh, jewellery! You make it so easy for those of us that choose the subtle route. Pick out your favourite cat jewellery piece and wear it however you please. I opted for an adorable handmade silver kitten pendant that my Mum gifted to me about five years ago. I don’t wear it terribly often, as I love it to pieces and am so worried that I’ll damage it. But when I do… I love it even more! As for jewellery alternatives, I think this cat ring is gorgeous. Oh, and I love this bracelet too!

4. Feline footwear.

Now, it doesn’t matter whether you can afford the ever-coveted Charlotte Olympia flats – there is always a way to introduce kitty-cats into your footwear. I love wearing cat socks in particular, just because it seems extra sweet to see a little face peeking out from below your ankles! Above I’m wearing a sold-out pair from Modcloth, but I think this pair – or even these, are a pretty sweet alternative!

5. And lastly – a cat hat!

Cat hats are sweet – oh go on, admit it! There is something about the addition of two pointed ears which seems to make headwear oh-so perfect. Barnaby might think I look slightly barmy when I wear my blue Boohoo cat hat down the street, but that’s fine by me. After all, I am slightly barmy! It keeps my head warm and it looks adorable. That’s my boxes checked! A couple of sweet alternatives are this cat beret or a cat bowler hat. Which one is your favourite?

Lastly – the big question; what are some of my very top kitty cat picks? Just take a glance below!

1. Paul & Joe Cat Collection Blush Sticks 2. Vintage Cat Design Shoulder bag 3. Tatty Divine Cat Ring 4. Rare Breed Flat 5. Cat Ear Bowler Hat 6. Loose Cat Print Sweatshirt

8th, March, 2013

Okay, I have a confession… I hate to admit it, but I have been one bad blogger this week. Eek! Though, it has been for good reasons, I promise! The first (and most important!) being that it was my boyfriend, Barnaby’s birthday on Monday! I’ve said it a bunch of times, but Lost in the Haze would honestly be nothing without him! No, really – I’m serious. No photographs, no layout, and no motivation! Yep, he’s a keeper, all right! (P.s. I find it so very bizarre that if you read our blog, you’ve never once seen what he looks like. What a man of mystery, eh!)

That being said – for once, I actually took our camera with us everywhere this week! I hope you enjoy seeing a snapshot of what I’ve been doing. Highlights included the arrival of my blue cat hat and matching bag (c/o Boohoo) and discovering a fairy ring made from mushrooms in the park closest to my house. Aren’t they insane?! As a child I was terrified of disrupting the fairies by entering the circle.. Not much has changed nowadays! They’re pretty to look at, but I simply refuse to step inside. Superstitious?! Me?! Okay, well maybe just occasionally..!

Mmm, love is in the air..! Dontcha just feel it?! To kick off Valentines week, I’ve curated a list of super-appropriate (and highly adorable!) heart shaped goodies. I am feeling so so so loved up this week, and want to reflect it in everything I do, whether it’s cooking with a heart shaped spatula or using this mug for a hot cuppa. My complete favourite is definitely the heart elbow patch sweater. I can so imagine wearing it with a pair of cute Ray Bans on a picnic date. Are you doing anything special for the big day? I’m hoping for a quiet night in with a good movie and yummy food. Oh, and of course, with my special guy too!

Oh , hello there! Today there was a slight chill in the air, so you know what that means.. Any time I possibly can, I pop on my vintage red nurse’s cape (!!) paired with red clogs (c/o Lotta From Stockholm) and a gingham asos dress – and feel completely like a certain miss red riding hood. It seemed only fitting to explore a deserted part of the woods, after all, I had to deliver a bunch of dandelions to my grandma..!

Now who doesn’t love a good pair of pants? To be honest, I wasn’t quite expecting the reaction I had to our last Must-Have Monday post. After mentioning my love for these heart-shaped pair of knickers, my inbox was suddenly bombarded with emails asking to please please please share more beautiful vintage inspired lingerie. Now, how could I bare to keep that information all to myself! I don’t know about you, but I always feel extra fancy when wearing a pair of my finest underwear. All of the ones above (especially the dotted pair – eek!) are pants I would simply love to own. See, it’s not too hard to find vintage-inspired – you’ve just got to keep looking!
