Or More Technically – Brownie!

From the age of seven through until nine, I was a Brownie. I remember desperately wishing I was old enough to join, and when I finally did, I hated it. I was constantly trying to devise plans so I could leave! While clearing my wardrobe in Brunei I actually rediscovered my old Brownie uniform. To my absolute amazement, it still fit – I really don’t know how it does! To keep in theme with my top, we spent the day lounging in trees and sitting in daisy fields. My beehived hair kept getting caught branches, but luckily I was able to escape twig-free! I definitely preferred today’s girl guide experience rather than when I was little – who doesn’t love a spot of tree climbing!

  3. I was a girls scout too…I joined in “Juniors” I remember going camping and having fun. I still have all my badges…hard to believe that I still have them. Then years later, my girls became “Brownies”…after that, they decided it was enough. BTW, your hair and makeup look great!

  10. Jo, I was the exact same way when it came to the Brownies! I couldn’t wait to join and when I was finally able to I hated it! My sash is somewhere in my parent’s house in the states. I love how you paired your top with the high-waisted shorts. This whole outfit is screams girly…right down to your ruffle socks! Love!

  14. Haha, this story sounds exaclty like me! I always begged my mum to let me join, but I was never old enough and I think our brownies group had a limit of a certain amount of people, so when a spot came up I got soooo excited. The first time I went I absolutely hated it and never went back haha! I can’t believe your uniform still fits you!

  15. I was the complete opposite, I loved it! I stayed on to be a Guide too. It’s a shame you didn’t have that much fun, but at least you’ve got a free top now 😉 xxx

  16. ha-ha about the wanting to be brownie free! i like the chocolate kind, not the camping with badges kind, & anything that requires a uniform, i’m not into. sweet whimsy your tree climbing nature girl photos. :)

  17. I was in Camp Fire, which was all right until I had to go to Camp Dakani. That place still gives me nightmares. I love being outside, but I’m not “outdoorsy.” Going for a walk is about all I want to do outside!

  20. Hi Jo! Thanks for your r=comments on my blog, I have to say I’m quite taken with yours. You have the most beautiful lips! (if you don’t mind me saying) . I love your beehive, I’ve been wearing a mini one in my hair lately, it’s an easy way of looking like I’ve made an effort with my hair without it taking too much time.

  21. Wow that is amazing you still have your old uniform! My brownie and guide uniforms are long gone but I do have a few guide-inspired clothes – including blue culottes so the influence of all those years of guiding is clearly still with me!

    Love your hair too!

  22. This post made me giggle because I was exactly the same – so desperate to be a Brownie, and then once I was one, I hated it every single week. I can still remember the day I told my mum I didn’t want to go any more. There was no jumping over the toadstool for moi! Great post (: xo
