Katerina Plotnikova

These hauntingly beautiful images by Russian photographer Katerina Plotnikova are everything. I’m not usually one for posting non-original content, but when I discovered these photographs, I knew they had to be shared. Seeing the relationships between the animals and models, and the resulting images, made my jaw drop wide open. These are incredible. And what I love most of all – is that they are real-life animals, instead of taxidermy animals; which quite frankly, give me the creeps. A quick peek at this behind-the-scenes shot from Katerina’s Facebook page shows the bear and the model – and the best incentive ever; food. Yes, beautiful bear, I think you and I would get along just fine.

Err, did someone say dream collaboration? Though it’s a world away from the infamous oversized ice creams at Brighton beach shoot from last year, Mulberry and Tim walker have once again nailed it. Paired with model of the moment, Cara Delevingne, the semi-spooky vibe created from the Fall 2013 Mulberry campaign is everything it should be and more. Cara is even showing off the coveted Alexa bag, makin’ me want it even more! (Though not as much as I want a miniature forest growing in my house. What a beauty!)

How gorgeous is this photo shoot of Tina Yi in the January 2013 issue of Vogue China! Can anyone point me in the general direction of a rainbow flower field, please?

Err, bicycle taxidermy. Need I say more?

Never before have I wanted a dress so badly in my life! Skeleton print and glow-in-the-dark? Yes yes yes! I am so sad that this has sold out. I will be anxiously refreshing the page until it’s back in stock!

Barnaby thought these were a bit creepy – but I fell in love with each and every one of these painted buildings! (He’s probably just worried that I’d do it to our future house… which I totally would!) Which one is your favourite?

I swear it is impossible to feel glum when you’re wearing heart print! I wore this dress a couple of days ago when I was going to a big meeting. I was super nervous!

Not that it’ll happen anytime soon, but I am severely lusting over a classic quilted Chanel designer handbag – like this one from Cruise Fashion. I wish!

These Hello Sunshine flats are some of the sweetest shoes I’ve ever seen! Luckily, they just so happen to be on their way to my mailbox..! ; )

Carey Mulligan’s spread for Harper’s Bazaar is seriously gorgeous! I love Carey. She seems like such a sweet person!

A speaker picnic blanket sounds like the best thing in the world. Now, if only New Zealand wasn’t going into winter! Oh well, even more reason to be excited for  spring, I suppose!

Hm, a bit of an odd title, don’t you think? At first, I might have even thought so myself! Strangely though, one of the questions I’m emailed about most often (besides lipstick and hair!) is about cat clothing. Namely, people have no idea where to buy cute feline clothing or accessories – let alone how to style them! Now, it’s fairly common amongst fashion bloggers to have a love for cats in fashion. I’d even go so far as saying it’s a staple diet – and I know that there are other bloggers out there who certainly agree (Carrie, Erin, I’m looking at you!) So it seems an absolute necessity that I post somewhat of a guide of how to wear cats on clothing, and not feel too silly and out of place about it.

1. A simple tote bag.

A bag is one of the easiest ways to cure the feline need. It’s easy. Wear whatever you like, then sling a bag over your shoulder, and voila – finished. A cat bag is fantastic way to really ease you into the trend, perfect for if you find it slightly intimidating! The bag I’m wearing above is one of my outfit staples. It’s sadly sold out, but a cute alternative is definitely this bag (which I adore!) – or even this one!

2. Kitty cat tights.

I LOVE these cat tights. Their little grumpy faces are the sweetest ever. Plus, they’re quite subtle when on, as the tights are flesh coloured. It looks almost as though you’ve been doodling on your knees with a felt tip pen (one of my regular habits when I was little!) These seem to sell out fairly often (sob!) so an adorable alternative are these ones, which are on my birthday wishlist!

3. Cat jewellery.

Ahh, jewellery! You make it so easy for those of us that choose the subtle route. Pick out your favourite cat jewellery piece and wear it however you please. I opted for an adorable handmade silver kitten pendant that my Mum gifted to me about five years ago. I don’t wear it terribly often, as I love it to pieces and am so worried that I’ll damage it. But when I do… I love it even more! As for jewellery alternatives, I think this cat ring is gorgeous. Oh, and I love this bracelet too!

4. Feline footwear.

Now, it doesn’t matter whether you can afford the ever-coveted Charlotte Olympia flats – there is always a way to introduce kitty-cats into your footwear. I love wearing cat socks in particular, just because it seems extra sweet to see a little face peeking out from below your ankles! Above I’m wearing a sold-out pair from Modcloth, but I think this pair – or even these, are a pretty sweet alternative!

5. And lastly – a cat hat!

Cat hats are sweet – oh go on, admit it! There is something about the addition of two pointed ears which seems to make headwear oh-so perfect. Barnaby might think I look slightly barmy when I wear my blue Boohoo cat hat down the street, but that’s fine by me. After all, I am slightly barmy! It keeps my head warm and it looks adorable. That’s my boxes checked! A couple of sweet alternatives are this cat beret or a cat bowler hat. Which one is your favourite?

Lastly – the big question; what are some of my very top kitty cat picks? Just take a glance below!

1. Paul & Joe Cat Collection Blush Sticks 2. Vintage Cat Design Shoulder bag 3. Tatty Divine Cat Ring 4. Rare Breed Flat 5. Cat Ear Bowler Hat 6. Loose Cat Print Sweatshirt

It’s no secret that I’m a girly girl. For me, nothing sounds better than dressing up on cotton candy colours, having big hair, and pulling silly faces. Okay, well a lot of things do sound better – but this does still seem pretty tempting, right?!

In this beautiful editorial by Saskia Wilson for Fashion Gone Rogue it’s all about the pink. Daisy accents finish the looks perfectly – especially the dreamy Marc Jacobs-esque collar detail. 1960s inspired beehives are adorned with feminine clips,  and pulled back into messy ponytails. I’m quite certain that this is how I want to dress all week long. Though if I had to choose one colour to wear, I’d have to go with my ever-favourite – yellow. How about you – what colour would you choose?

One thing I was particularly excited about during Wellington Fashion Week was the opportunity to shoot a slice of street style on behalf of Boohoo. Okay, I’ll admit, I’m a pretty confident person – I don’t get particularly shy, and even when I do – I somehow manage to get over it. But asking well-dressed individuals if I could take their picture? Eek! Somehow – yes, somehow I was able to ‘woman up’ – basically due to the Boohoo commitment, and capture a bunch of looks I am now deeply coveting!

For me, what was even better than photographing beautiful outfits was the people I met through it! I snapped these shots right after a photography seminar by Remix Magazine, and ended up staying an entire hour afterwards just chatting away. The lovely lady you see above, a certain Miss Izzie Austin, even recognised me, which was very bizarre – and of course made my shyness levels escalate to unnatural amounts. Honestly, I’ve been recognised about… 3 times? So every eight months, I suppose! So again, a big thank you to Boohoo, and of course to Izzie, Megan, Caitlin, Jodi, Becki, and the lovely flower crown lady who I didn’t get the name of!

Now I’ve shown you what I was watching, it seemed only right to show you what I was wearing too! My lovely, kind, and patient boyfriend, Barnaby (!) was extra lovely, kind, and patient and offered to take a few snaps after the show. These actually turned out to be some of my favourite ever Lost in the Haze photos, so thank you thank you, Barnaby!

For my outfit, I wore a red dress covered in bows by Pepa Loves. My beloved red clogs are by Lotta From Stockholm. I finished the look by adding liquid eyeliner, red lippy, and bundling my hair into Heidi braids. It’s a good thing I love ’em so much, as it’s the only way to cope against the famous Wellington winds!

Last night I was lucky enough to attend my very first fashion show! Never one to do things in a timid manner – I attended WORLD; one of New Zealand’s most famous labels, and the opening show at Wellington Fashion Week! Oh, and of course, it was wonderful. I was practically about to burst with excitement when the lights began to dim – and even more when I heard the opening song… ‘Crazy’ by Britney Spears! Yep, this sounds like my kind of show, all right! (I didn’t stop tapping my foot the entire time. Oh, and singing along too. Sorry if anyone heard me, I love that song!)

Taking inspiration from The Great Gatsby, finger waves and glitter hair was everywhere. Honestly, it was completely awe inspiring. No one could look away – though of course we didn’t want to! Aviator caps made several appearances (jealous!) and each of the male models emerged with a John Waters-esque pencil thin moustache. Ohhh yeah! But my favourite thing of all was the footwear. Black heels with simple studded detail finished each look off perfectly. The best thing is that WORLD hand-picked the Leila Court shoes in black by Number one shoes – so they are completely affordable! Just the kind of thing I like to hear!

It’s near impossible to not know the Wizard of Oz story. Hey, I know the plot and I haven’t ever seen the film – so it can be done! With the release of the new ‘Oz’ film, I was suddenly reminded of the 2005 Keira Knightley editorial for Vogue, aka. one of my favourite photo shoots of all time. Now, I know that some of you will be moaning and groaning about Keira – but there is no denying it – this shoot is perfection! (P.s. I’m not afraid to admit my shameless love for Miss Knightley! Come on; Pride and Prejudice, Atonement, and even Bend it like Beckham were amazing!)

Honestly though, how perfectly does this shoot tell the story? Everytime I look at this editorial (which is more often that you’d think – really!) I fall more and more in love with it. Whether it’s the styling, setting, or snuffly little Toto, this shoot is it for me. I love the red shoes especially – and how perfectly would they match one of the red bow bags by Nica? Even though I’m quite terrible at going to the movies (I love a cosy night in with popcorn, a blanket, and of course – my guy!) I’m definitely feeling tempted by the Oz movie. Have any of you seen it yet? And of course, how was it?!

Ready for some Springtime inspiration? “Err, surely you must be in Autumn, right?” I can already hear you ask. Well, New Zealand may already officially be in Fall mode, but you can never have too much pink ‘n pastel, don’t you think? Plus, in defence to myself – this Winter I’m hoping to channel a certain Miss Flashes of Style. Flower crowns in the middle of snowy weather? Yep, that Bonnie is one smart lady!

One thing I sadly know isn’t going to happen anytime soon (sob!) is the arrival of the cherry blossoms. Forever my favourite part of Spring, I simply love it when the blossoms coat the area surrounding them – much like in these photographs of Nastya Kusakina taken by Jens Ingvarsson. Spending a day lounging on a bed of blossoms, with braids in my hair and the prettiest outfits I can imagine, sounds like utter perfection to me. Though at this time of the year, I’d likely be tucked up in a pile of leaves, wearing something equally pretty (err, let’s say, well anything by Barbour, really!) hoping to stay warm. Can I live vicariously through all of you Northern Hemisphere dwellers? Oh, go on..!
