Err, so you may have noticed that I am definitely a sucker for anything novelty (the lemon purse kind of adds to it, right?) It all started when I came across The Pommier; an online marketplace with a massive focus on independent makers and emerging creators. I’m all about supporting talented individuals who create their very own designs (how could you not be?!) and the deal was well and truly sealed when I spotted these Pretzel earrings by Poporcelain.
If you’re a long time reader (hi!) you may have spotted that I don’t often sport earrings. They usually make my ears itch, unless they’re made of high quality metal – and yes, these gold plated pretzels do the trick. Plus, I suppose I just don’t care for earrings (please say this in the absolute snootiest voice you can manage). A pair have to be really, really good for me to say yes.
Clearly, these pretzels absolutely ARE THAT GOOD. The second I spotted them I knew I had to have them. Pretzels are ridiculously tasty! And since you don’t come across them terribly often in Thailand, wearing them is definitely the second best option. A little more about the earrings themselves; they’re handcrafted from genuine porcelain, which means everyone is slightly different (how awesome is that?!) The salty sprinkles are made from gold, as well as the rose that holds it in your ear.
I was also massively excited at just how quickly they arrived on my doorstep. I’m not a terribly patient person, and waiting for packages always makes me slightly agitated (Millennials, yo), and these salty things arrived well within the week.
I may not be much a baker, but for now I’m hugely content with wearing tasty treats on my ears.
Hi friends! First up, this is NOT what we are going to be making (although omg, maybe that should be my next tutorial?)
Nope, instead today I’m going to teach you how to upcycle a beret and give it a whole new lease of life – as a cat, obviously! And the best thing is that it’s SUPER EASY – as well as, you know, pretty much being the cutest accessory that your own two hands have ever constructed.
You will need:
– a beret (I used a very, very worn down one I thrifted several years ago)
– embroidery thread in the colours of your choice (I used black, pink and white)
– a needle
– felt in the same colour as your beret
Start by cutting four triangles from your felt. These are going to be your cat’s ears. Regularly hold them against your beret to ensure they’re the size you like. Sew two of the triangles together then sew them onto the top of the beret, leaving plenty of space for the face.
I did the face purely freehand – and you probably can too! Just use your various embroidery thread to create the cat face of your dreams. Other options for the eyes include sewing on buttons or even adding googly eyes. There are heaps of options!
And that’s it! Told ya it was a simple one ; ) although I suppose the final step is whipping out your favourite cat clothing (in my case, my matching Charlotte Olympia kitty flats and card holder) and feeling like ultimate cat lady. Meow!
It’s never been much of a secret that I am BONKERS for anything even remotely nautical! I fell in love with the Helm necklace by New Zealand based jewellery designer Black Matter (hooray for locally made!) I still can’t get over the intricate detail, not to mention just how well made it is in general – the weight alone is something to be impressed by!
We simply had to shoot these photos on my favourite duvet cover – which seems awfully appropriate, don’t you think? I got dolled up in an oldie but a goodie; this anchor print little number by Unique Vintage. Everything just went so well together – largely due to the fact that almost everything I own is sailor-like in some way. Either way, I am over the moon with this necklace. It’s gonna be hangin’ around for years to come, I just know it!
Ps. If you’re a sailor gal like me and looking to see more of the collection (just kidding, I know you totally are!) I’ve included some of my favourite pieces at the bottom of this post! ..and surprise, surprise, they’re all from the nautical collection. (Bet you didn’t see that one coming!)
Paradise Garden Buffet, 3545 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas
Visiting the Sprinkles Cupcake ATM had been up pretty high on my list ever since we booked our flights to America waaay back in January. After a quick trip on the Monorail we spotted the all-pink signage from really far back – a true testament to just how long I spent Google Imaging the thing.
In short: it lived up to expectations! It was really, really simple – just insert your card, select your cupcake, wait a couple of seconds.. then as if like magic, the little door opens and your cupcake is inside, just waiting to be eaten! (To which you happily oblige, of course).
Just a note to anyone visiting – it only takes a card! I expected it to take cash – which in hindsight is pretty silly – being an ‘ATM’ and all. It’s just a little heads up for anyone who might be visiting in the future. Remember your card!
Jewellery has never really been my thing (I’m more of a bag lady – the weirder the better!) but this has definitely been something I’ve been trying to work on this year. Slowly but surely my turquoise deer-shaped jewellery box has been filling up, and I’ve noticed that I seem to have an extreme penchant for rings. And much like my bag collection – I like ’em with a side of weird.
You will have seen the odd ring here on the blog before, but I wanted to share them all in one go. Because, you know, I’m feeling a bit proud of myself, and all that.. ; )
This heart ring is one of the latest additions to my ring collection. It’s a fairly simple piece, which makes it an absolute essential when it comes to layering. I’m a huge fan of this ring and wear it most days – even to work, which is a big deal for this lady who normally sports bare fingers during the 9-5!
This is probably my most lavish, ridiculous, over-the-top piece of jewellery yet – and I couldn’t possibly love it more. Les Nereides is a jewellery brand I am (quite frankly) obsessed with, and I’m desperately waiting for the summer months, where I can wear it on my favourite beach as I explore the rock pools. Hi little crabby crabs, say hi to your friend!
Basically, this fox ring is what started it all.. I fell in love with it years ago and had to make it my own! I wear it insanely often – and if I’m ever going out at night (which really, isn’t very often!) I make sure to have this baby firmly adorned on my finger as I reckon it would make quite an effective weapon if I ever needed it! In fact, I lovingly refer to it as ‘my punching ring’ – no joke!
Rocking Horse Ring – PBJ Boutique
I bought this ring from the (sadly now closed) PBJ Boutique. And would you believe it only set me back around $12? I picked this up for myself around three or so years ago, and for a cheap ring it is still in fantastic condition, with it’s gold colour still in pristine condition. Hooray! What I really love about this ring is that it functions as a teeny-tiny rocking horse when you put it upright. Because as we all know, things are so much cuter in miniature!
If it’s fairytale based, chances are I’m gonna love it (and even more so when Alice in Wonderland is involved!) These two babes from N2 are no exception. In fact, while you’re here, you should probably just look at everything that N2 makes. Because it’s all amazing. And there is SO MUCH fairytale stuff. It’s the best, man!
These guys are a little tricky to capture in photographs, so allow me to explain a bit more. One is a sailboat, another is a wave, and finally – dolphins. And together they combine to create… well, one mighty fine ring set, I suppose (I bet you were totally thinking more along the lines of summoning Captain Planet or something! No. Just no). For a nautical lover (which I totally am) these are basically the best thing ever. Though watch out for the yacht – it’s rather pointy (as my laddered Winter tights will attest to!)
And finally, my beautiful, beautiful porcelain white rabbit ring. Because, lets keep the Alice theme going and all that! I accidentally got this ring in slightly too big a size, but that doesn’t stop me from sporting it on my middle finger and feeling pretty darn good about it too. Right, now I just need to find a human sized rabbit hole to fall down so I can go on my next adventure..!
So, I’ve never made it a secret that novelty bags are kind of my thing. Some girls are keen on shoes or dresses – but bags are what really, really get me. You might have seen the last post I did on my weird bag collection, but it has gained several additions since – including two pineapples, a biscuit, and an orange! I genuinely have little to no willpower when it comes to novelty bags. My wishlist is ever-growing – although you can see a list of just some of my favourites at the very bottom of this post.
Of course, as promised, here are a few bags I’m pretty obsessed with at the moment. If I wasn’t saving so hard (I’m heading to America later this year) I’m sure I would’ve made one of these mine by now. I’m especially keen on the latest Whitepepper bags – especially the stegosaurus! (The matching dinosaur blouse is pretty freakin’ cute too!)
“I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!“
So, a few months ago something weird happened to me. I don’t know whether it’s because I’m now officially in my mid-twenties (!!) but I have well and truly been bitten by the homeware bug. Instead of spending hours trawling the internet for pretty dresses, I’m way more likely to be found checking out duvet covers or pastel coloured shelves. Hey, I’m not complaining or anything; having a home that reflects your taste is pretty dang important, don’t you think?
Now, enter the ice cream vase! I completely fell for the ‘I Scream’ vase by Jonathan Adler. As soon as I saw it lurking in the gift department of Shopbop, I knew it had to be mine. And look – it is! And doesn’t it look adorable full of fresh blooms? Plus, I’m sure it could also double as a sundae dish, which is a massive positive in my books! : )
You may have noticed that I’m just a wee bit hooked on the colour yellow. I can’t help it: it just makes me so happy! And you can’t beat happiness, right? : ) My friends love to tease me about my silly crush on yellow, and will often Snapchat me pictures of yellow things they see throughout their day. Aw, you guys!
A couple of days ago I just plain felt like treating myself, so on my way home from work I walked straight into a shop and came out with… a bright yellow gnome! I’d been eyeing this little guy up for well over a month – well, one that was about five times the size actually – but this guy was much more affordable. As I placed him alongside my other trinkets, I realised that I really do own a lot of yellow. Here is a little peek at some of my favourites from my ever-growing collection.
Some gals have a thing for shoes, some prefer hats, but me? I’m a bag lady, all the way. Well, I actually quite like shoes and hats too, but bags win. If it’s a little ‘out there’ then it’s for me. And the number one rule? Animal bags win, every time. When I was a kid I had a bag shaped like a shoe. I seriously thought it was the coolest thing ever, and I really, really wish I still had it! I like to think it has massively influenced my silly bag collection. But you guys get it, right? Silly bags are so much fun! Here’s a wee look at my collection. Let me know which one is your favourite!
It’s September, so you know what that means… Spring is here!! (Well, in the southern hemisphere at least..!) You’ll know by now that I’m not much of a Winter gal. Every year I go slightly into denial – wearing shorts and skirts and laughing (aka shivering) in the face of sub-zero weather.
The entire duration of the colder months, I’ve been left thinking about Spring. Naturally, I couldn’t help but begin to collect pretty things to style for when the weather warms up. The first being this stripy hat! Something about being a brunette makes me want to wear green all the time and these stripes make me feel like a wannabe Parisian. Something I am more than happy to deal with.
I’m beyond excited to get into curling my hair more often this spring! We took a whirlwind trip to Christchurch at the weekend to see family and to collect a portion of our copious amounts of stuff. One of the things I was most eager to find was my curling iron! You’re bound to see a whooole lot more wavy hair around here. Something about it seems so very spring-y, don’t you think?
These spotted clogs had me at hello! Once again, the very wonderful Lotta From Stockholm has outdone herself with her gorgeous designs. Clogs win me over every time – and the polkadot print is beyond dreamy. I’m so so so excited for the weather to finally warm up, so I can wear these babies out, without my toes feeling like they could drop off my feet.
